October has brought some cooler weather but we are still keeping warm with excitment on the water here in Sidney. Despite the autumn’s brisk breezes, guests are piling into the K-KO and Emerald Moon to view both Transient and Resident Orca Pods J, K and L. On one of our trips this month, guests watched new calf L117 and Mama (pictured here) splash and play right next to the boat! A special thanks to Christine for sending us this amazing picture! We have also seen quite a few humpback whales on our tours this month, as well as bow riding Dalls Porpoises and giant colonies of Steller Sea Lions! Give us a call to book your tour today!

Despite having to bundle up just a little bit more in the changing weather, guests aboard Sidney Whale Watching’s K-KO aluminum vessel are having more fun than ever! With tours still departing each day, guests are able to view the slowly changing landscape of green to gold as well as the many species of marine wildlife the Penninsula has to offer. One tour yesterday said they were swimming along side as many as 20 Dall’s Porpoise on the way back into port! Resident Orca pods J, K and L were all foraging together off the coast the of San Juan Island creating a spectacle of nearly 90 whales for all to see! Come join the adventure!!

It’s been a fantastic week here in Sidney with our resident pods J and K making appearances left right and centre! Guests are leaving with big smiles on their faces as J pod and K pod travel together looking for tasty treats creating a super pod of over fifty whales for our viewing pleasure! Some guests were even lucky enough to spot a group of Dall’s Porpoise speeding by! The sun is shining, the sea is calm and it could not be a better day for a boat ride here in Sidney.

Adapted from Arlene Antonik for the “Seaside Times”

Breaching, spyhopping, bow riding, tail slapping- if these terms aren’t familiar to you, it probably means you haven’t been on a whale watching tour.
What are you waiting for? Sea Quest Adventures, located in the Cannery Building at the foot of Beacon Avenue, offers three hour exhilarating, extraordinary tours – and they start right from Sidney’s waterfront! Sea Quest is the closest company to the whale foraging grounds which means less travel time and more whale time!

Our coastline is home to the Southern Resident J, K and L pods of killer whales, numbering approximately 90 altogether. Whale sightings on the tours are guaranteed during the summer months and often occur within the first 20 minutes of leaving shore.

As well as orcas, there are often sightings of minke, humpback and grey whales. Nearby islands are home to seal colonies and porpoise feeding grounds and sea lions can be seen basking on sun-warmed rocks. Don’t be surprised to find a bald eagle soaring above either!
