Sea kayaking is an exciting popular sport here within the islands. Sea Quest has a fleet of both single and double kayaks available. Our boathouse is situated on the waterfront with access to both beach and dock entries. Tours are available from just a few hours to personalized multi day tours. Experienced guides are here in the summer months to assist with guests who have little or no experience. Paddlers who are proficient in their own self-rescue techniques can rent single kayaks on their own. We abide by the industry safety standards of a maximum of 5 paddlers per guide ratio. All of our boat rentals are required by law to have safety equipment that is enforced by RCMP, Transport Canada and Ships Safety and are supplied for you. Kayak rentals are available year round by reservation.

The Gulf Islands offer a mild climate with safe and sheltered waters making them one of the absolute best kayaking destinations in all of Canada. The waters around the southern Gulf Islands are especially calm and are suitable for paddlers of all skill levels. Farther north, quieter, more remote paddling with a gorgeous varied coastline are the “Discovery Islands”, also a favourite.

The Gulf Islands are located between the mainland of Vancouver (BC) and Vancouver Island and the area has been rated easy to difficult by kayakers. You may plan to spend anywhere from a few hours to a few days exploring the area! The sheltered islands are full of inter tidal and marine life. Porpoises, seals, river otters and mink are commonly seen here as well as Orca Whales, humpback whales and eagles.

Kayak Lessons and Guided Paddles:

We offer guided paddles with our experienced guides every day! Our prices include the kayak and equipment rental. We require a minimum of 2 people per booking.

3 hour guided paddle/lesson = $85.00 + tax per person

8 hour guided paddle/lesson = $130.00 + tax per person

Bed and Breakfast Kayak Tour

Come join us on a 3 hour or 7 hour guided paddle through the Gulf and then finish the day at a local Bed and Breakfast.Your tour departs from Sidney and then after a 1.5 hour paddle we arrive at Moresby Island. From Moresby Island we travel by kayak again to Pender Island at Poets Cove where you enjoy a spa, a dinner and an overnight at the luxurious Poets Cove Resort and Spa. The following morning we can arrange to pick you up by private charter or you may decide to kayak back.

Camping Expeditions

We can personalize trips according to a kayaker’s experience and interest. These trips can range anywhere from 1 night to 4 nights. Some options to consider:

 

3 Day Kayak and Camping

This 3 day adventure begins in Sidney BC, a 30 minute drive from downtown Victoria. We take our first night camp to Discovery Island or Darcy Island (a former leper colony!). The second night we will stay at the Portland Island Marine Parks where there is forest hiking and beautiful beaches for ocean swimming.

The second night alternatively could be spent at the Beaumont Marine Park located on South Pender Island. This park has sandy beaches to take our kayaks onto and we can take a semi-challenging hike to Mount Norman (244m/ 800 ft) and follow it with a swim and hot tub at the Poets Cove Resort and Spa.
